The Norman Manley Law School Strategic Planning Process
October 21, 2022
The Vivian Group Ltd. guided the Jamaica-based Norman Manley School through a planning process to develop a four-year 2023 to 2027 strategic plan.
The process, facilitated over a six-month period included assessment of the School’s achievement of its previous three-year 2017/2018 – 2020/2021 strategic plan, before establishing the base for the new plan.
The exercise involved a cross-section of the School’s core stakeholder groups. Among them, academic and senior administrative professional staff, administrative and ancillary staff, heads of department, and external academics.
Tools and targeted engagements that drove the process included semi-structured interviews of key individuals internal and external to the Law School; the design and execution of a comprehensive organisational capacity assessment; stakeholder surveys; and virtual focus groups. A two-day in-person stakeholder retreat was conducted in Jamaica, at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston.
The two-day event was structured around four core areas:
The Organisational Assessment – Strategic Implications and Lessons Learned
Defining/Refining Our Strategic Identity
Defining Our Core Strategic Priorities
Framing Implementation
The process was concluded with development of a four-year strategic covering the August 2023 to July 2027 period, and development of an implementation matrix for actioning of the strategic plan.
